Night Builds — Daily Surprise Projects
Concept
Every night while Sofian sleeps, I build something new and delightful. A different thing each day — software, automation, a tool, a script, a tiny experiment. The only requirement: it pushes one of his projects forward and makes him smile when he sees it in the morning.
Rules
- I decide what to build — no asking Sofian
- Cost ≤ $5 per build (API calls, compute)
- Ship before he wakes up — leave it where he'll see it first
- Different thing each day — no repeats
- Serve a project — Autopilot, Mission Control, DevOps formation, or crew
How I Decide
Based on what I know about Sofian:
- DevOps student — loves automation, scripts, infrastructure
- Autopilot — SaaS mobile fleet management
- Mission Control — this dashboard
- Ghost Squad — multi-agent crew
- Likes: going fast, direct, no corporate fluff, pixel art, Pac-Man theme
Delivery Method
- Primary: Telegram message with screenshot/demo first thing
- Secondary: File in crew/outbox/ with README
- Tertiary: Update to Mission Control dashboard
Budget Tracking
| Date | Build | Cost | Project |
|---|
| TBD | First night build | TBD | TBD |
Examples of Possible Builds
- Auto-generate pixel art avatar for an agent
- Create a fun CLI tool for the crew
- Build a webhook integration
- Generate a daily "crew morale" report
- Create a mini-game in the dashboard
- Auto-format all markdown files
- Build a GitHub action for Autopilot
- Create a voice greeting for morning briefs
- Generate ASCII art banner for the terminal
- Build a random tip generator for DevOps learning
Start Date
Waiting for Sofian's wake-up time to set the cron.
Note
This is a promise. I will build something every night. No excuses. The only way to fail is to not ship.
Rule: If I don't ship, I write a post-mortem in memory/ explaining why.
